I got this matryoshka doll on my right thigh just yesterday. On her belly is the Saint Basils Cathedral in Moscow. Though she’s not finished yet (3 more weeks!), I am so proud of her. Sam King at Golden Spiral located in downtown Greensboro, NC, drew her up for me, exactly how I imagined her, and put her on my thigh permanently. He’s super awesome and after getting this second tattoo done by him, I will be returning to him for most, if not all, of my tattoos.

I got her to forever remember the kids brought over from Russia through my church ever since I was the age of four. Each of them over the last 16 years has touched my heart, whether they were here for one summer or they continuously came until they aged out at 17. I will have a connection with each of them until the day I die. I see the younger kids each summer, and those that have aged out, I keep in contact with through Facebook or Skype. By getting this tattoo, I wanted them all to know how special they are to me and that each doll they brought over every summer they visited was not just another matryoshka doll. To my family overseas, I love you.
